Artist's Comments

For anybody who is annoyed by "OMG! First comment!" comments.

What is it about posting the first comment that makes people point it out every time they post it? Okay, you made the first comment. And I probably made the thirty-seventh. Who cares? Besides, it's not like the artist really cares. If the artist cares about any comments, they care about the ones that actually have to do with the artwork being commented on, not the order in which they came.

TL;DR: Either post relevant comments that matter, or :icongtfoplz:

ZOMG! FIRST!!! No, I'm kidding.

I think they're so obsessed because either

A.) It's a huge artist, and they feel like they've just won some sort of contest to get them noticed.

or

B.) They're just proud of themselves for finally being the first for something.

I don't understand either of these things, really. It's just pointless excitement.

Somehow I knew I'd get a comment like that. XD

I guess.
I know of an artist who actually started disabling comments because most of the comments he got were either "first comment" comments, or leech comments. Which is sad, because sometimes I actually have something interesting to say about them, but I can't comment, because comments are disabled because of leechers and first commenters. :(

You make it sound like a bad thing when you say it's not a good thing! :ohnoes:

Psst...I can smell your bellybutton from here.

I've noticed a lot of artists doing that. Then people got the hint, and eventually put the comments back on.

Oh boy, leeches are worse then first comments.

See this all the time in news sites. In some places it was bad enough to become a ban-able offense.

usually they just get a warning or a flame. But its not unheard of, especially for repeat offenders.

:iconstitchedupzombie:
Well, now that I think about it, on this site, comments like that could technically be considered spam.

generally it is. Though not as consequential as other forms.
